Germany’s Hochland buys US cheese firm Franklin Foods

German cheese maker Hochland has snapped up US cream cheese business Franklin Food sources.

Hochland said the deal, struck for an undisclosed total, would help it "further create" its own brands in the US. Three years ago, Hochland set up a sales arm in the US called Bergland Cheese USA.

"The solid market position, nationwide circulation and two present day creation plants of Franklin Food varieties offer Hochland the ideal platform for our very own fruitful implementation brands and items in the USA," Hochland President Peter Stahl said.

According to Hochland, Florida-based Franklin Food sources is the third-largest maker of cream cheese in the US, generating incomes of approximately US$140m in 2016. Hochland said Franklin Food sources has "filled rapidly in the past few years".

Franklin Food sources runs operates two creation locales in Vermont and Arizona. It has 200 workers. The company sells its own brands and private-label items through the retail and foodservice channels. The business' range of brands include Hahn's cream cheese, Lombardi's mascarpone and cream cheese-to-spreads brand Green Mountain Farms.
